General Airport Information

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) finally opened its doors in October 2020, after nearly 15 years of construction delays. Today, it serves as the only airport of the German capital, replacing Tegel, Tempelhof, and Schönefeld. With modern infrastructure, efficient operations, and future expansion plans, BER is set to become one of the busiest and most important aviation hubs in Europe and worldwide. Currently operating with two main terminals, additional terminals are already planned to meet growing demand.

Terminals

  • Terminal 1 (T1): The main and largest terminal, offering most of the airport’s services, airlines, and amenities.
  • Terminal 2 (T2): Primarily serves low-cost carriers and is located adjacent to Terminal 1.
  • Terminal 5 (T5): Formerly Schönefeld Airport, located 10 minutes from T1/T2, permanently closed since 2021.

Hotels

  • Steigenberger Hotel Berlin Airport: A 4-star property located right at Terminal 1. Facilities include a conference center, spa, fitness area, and an international restaurant.
  • IntercityHotel Berlin Airport: Also near Terminal 1, featuring modern rooms, business and conference facilities, dining options, and a complimentary Berlin public transport pass.
  • Nearby Options: A wide range of accommodations can also be found close to the airport or in Berlin city center, accessible by train or taxi.

Parking

With over 10,000 parking spaces, BER offers reliable and secure parking options directly at Terminals 1 and 2:

  • Short- and long-term car parks
  • Specially marked spots for passengers with reduced mobility
  • Family and women’s parking zones
  • Electric vehicle charging stations
  • Convenient baggage cart stations

Parking fees are competitive, and reservations can often be made online for better rates.

Layovers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Whether short or long, a layover at BER can be surprisingly pleasant. The airport provides a wide range of shops, duty-free stores, restaurants, and lounges to help you pass the time. For longer stopovers, consider taking a quick trip into Berlin city center — the express train reaches downtown in under 30 minutes, making it easy to enjoy a taste of the German capital before your next flight.
